GWM UTE Problems

Overview of GWM UTE

GWM Ute and many other models will be produced by Great Wall Motors since 2019, including Pao, Wingle 7, Shanghai Cannon, Cannon Alpha, etc. It became popular in many countries after its successful launch. In New Zealand and Australia, the GWM Ute is branded as E & Cannon, and in South Africa it is branded as P-series. Cannon, Cannon-L, and Cannon-X are the three dual-cab versions offered by GWM.

Problems with GWM UTE

Most owners encounter these five problems at some point.

1. Engine vibration

Vibrations caused by the engine while riding the vehicle are the most common problem owners experience. Driving and riding on a car that shakes, juggling, and trembles makes it uncomfortable for both. Vibrations beneath the seat become very tiring for many owners after long rides and make them uncomfortable.

Consequently, if you plan to purchase one, it is recommended that you take a test drive and observe whether you will be able to adjust to it over the course of your ride, especially if you are going to be driving for an extended period of time.

Causes

  • Parts of the ignition system are faulty.
  • Disconnecting or loosening hoses
  • Fuel injectors clogged
  • An unbalanced engine.
  • Worn-out or misaligned belts

Solutions

  • Ensure that engine components are balanced.
  • Fuel should be of high quality.
  • A faulty component should be inspected and replaced.
  • Wheels and tires should be balanced
  • Engine mounts should be checked

2. Glitches in the infotainment system

There are some issues with the multimedia system on the GWM Ute’s nine-inch touchscreen. The touchscreen sometimes isn’t responsive, and some actions are delayed. There are sometimes glitches and compatibility issues preventing owners from connecting their Bluetooth devices.

To remain entertained, explore new places, and connect devices, you need a well-functioning infotainment system. The user experience can be adversely affected by infotainment system glitches, especially when navigating. Moreover, connecting Apple devices to the system is a major concern for users.

Causes

  • Outdated or bugged software
  • Hardware malfunctions.
  • Control interface or touch screen malfunction
  • Incompatible devices

Solutions

  • Diagnosis tools can be used to check for error codes
  • Software update for infotainment system
  • System reset
  • Make sure the ports and screens are clean
  • Hardware diagnoses and repairs

3. DPF issues

DPF problems are another common problem with GWM Utes. A DPF filter reduces harmful particle emissions from diesel GMW UTEs with diesel engines by capturing and trapping soot particles from the exhaust system.

The clogged DPFs in overheated vehicles can cause excessive exhaust fumes, cause regeneration failures, and reduce engine performance due to increased fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and decreased acceleration. In addition to dashboard warning lights, a malfunctioning DPF filter can cause the engine to go into “Limp Mode”

Causes

  • The diesel fuel quality is poor
  • Engine temperature is not optimum for regenerating DPF during frequent short trips
  • Injectors with faults
  • The exhaust system or sensors are faulty

Solutions

  • Repair or replace faulty exhaust components or sensors.
  • Diesel fuel should be of high quality
  • Fuel injectors that are faulty should be replaced
  • Allow the DPF to reach regeneration temperatures by driving the vehicle for longer periods of time.

4. Gearbox problems

GWM Ute owners often experience transmission problems. There are a variety of symptoms associated with these transmission problems, including transmission engagement delays, gear slippage, hesitations during gear changes, grinding or shaking noises, warning lights that flash, and complete transmission failures. The resolution of these issues requires professional mechanical knowledge and is critical and complex. Passengers may experience safety concerns due to their adverse effects on engine performance.

Causes

  • Transmission fluid is insufficient
  • Alignment of the engine and gearbox is faulty
  • Components worn out in the clutch
  • Locked gear shift
  • Solenoid failure in transmissions

Solutions

  • Fluids should be checked and changed regularly
  • Wearing clutch components should be inspected and replaced
  • If available, update the software for the transmission control module.

5. Fuel consumption increases

A GWM Ute-type vehicle consumes 9.4 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers according to the manufacturer. The fuel consumption of many scooters is higher than expected after just a couple of months of use, however. Additionally, aggressive driving and overloading can increase fuel consumption in addition to this problem.

Causes

  • Intentionally speeding, accelerating rapidly, or braking hard.
  • Tire pressure is too low
  • A malfunctioning oxygen sensor
  • Spark plug malfunction
  • Inadequate maintenance

Solutions

  • Maintenance of vehicles on time
  • Be careful not to brake aggressively
  • Spark plugs with damage or faults should be replaced
  • Maintain proper tire pressure on a regular basis
  • Avoid idling
